Mission: The Devil's Due[]
Hunter and Peter are at the Mirror Table discussing talk of a "Slime Monster" in the sewers of New York City. They wonder whether it could be Venom, having gone to ground after his defeat in the bell tower. Peter convinces Hunter that the two of them should go check it out.
Investigating the sewer tunnels, they come upon a Vampyre lair. One of the Hemaliscs hatches and a Vampyre emerges, pouncing at the two heroes. A pair of tendrils grab it, pulling it to Venom perched above, and he consumes it. The heroes quickly realize that he has transformed into Blood Venom from consuming numerous Vampyres in the sewers.
After Blood Venom is defeated, he begins to pulse with red demonic energy. Hunter cannot save him, and wants to give him a merciful death to end his suffering. Mephisto suddenly appears and offers a deal; if the heroes accept, he will cure Venom of both Lilith's corruption and the blood fever induced from consuming so many Vampyres. He asks that in return, the heroes stop the Vampyre uprising.
Hunter refuses the deal, but Spider-Man reluctantly agrees. Mephisto restores Venom, who stomps off screaming that he will destroy the bad food. As Hunter and Spider-Man leave to follow him, Mephisto surprises Spider-Man by calling him "Peter", though he disappears before Spider-Man can learn more.
Hunter and Spider-Man catch up to Venom, and together the three of them defeat another Vampyre nest. Afterward, Venom starts to leave, but stumbles around a corner as if weakened. When he re-emerges, he appears as simply Eddie. Eddie is grateful to Spider-Man for making the deal that saved him, and offers to put their past aside -- at least for now, until the Vampyres are defeated and the people are safe. Spider-Man accepts and Hunter welcomes Venom to the Midnight Suns.
Mission: Making Amends[]
As Hunter approaches Eddie at the Mirror Table, an alert goes off, signalling a Vampyre attack in Central Park. Eddie is eager to move out immediately and Hunter agrees.
The duo saves a group of civilians being attacked by Vampyres, but Venom notices a foul odor. Suddenly, they are transported to Limbo and come face to face Mephisto once again. Mephisto is upset with the focus on saving civilians, and reiterates that Vampyres are bad for business. He then points out Vampyres keep souls from flowing where they are supposed to, and less souls means more Soulless. As he finishes speaking, Hunter and Venom are surrounded by a group of Soulless.
After they survive the onslaught, Mephisto tells them that they have earned his respect for their victory. He tells them that they can find what they seek where it all began, and threatens that if they do not eradicate the threat, they will join him in Limbo forever. As if to punctuate his warning, Mephisto teleports Hunter and Venom away.
Back in the Abbey, Peter asks Hunter to check in on Eddie, as the encounter with Mephisto seems to have upset him. Hunter finds Eddie at Hunter's Folly and asks him if he wants to talk. Eddie explains that, between Lilith's mind control and Mephisto having him under his thumb, he feels like a punching bag. He seems excited about the legendary Spear of Perseus, a magical weapon that makes its bearer invincible.
Leaving Eddie with his thoughts, Hunter heads to the Common Room and asks Doctor Strange about the Spear. Strange explains that it isn't a magical item at all -- rather, it's a military troop formation that Perseus used. The part about a supernatural weapon was a legend created much later. The two of them become concerned that Eddie may find a worthless item that he believes is magical, and attempt to confront Mephisto wielding it.
Hunter returns to Peter. Peter explains that he's concerned Eddie's emotions will get the better of him. Even before becoming Venom, Eddie was always emotional, but the symbiote magnifies that. It feeds off his emotions and amplifies them. Peter assures Hunter that he will keep an eye on Eddie.
Mission: Lord of Darkness[]
Peter tells Hunter that Eddie left him a note saying that he knows where to find the "ultimate answer". Peter is afraid that Eddie and the symbiote may have hit a breaking point and will do something rash. They aren't in the Abbey and Magik reveals that she sent them to a church. Peter realizes that it must be the church where Venom was born, so he and Hunter head to the location.
They find Eddie at the church, and Spider-Man asks him how he is doing. Eddie said he came here because Mephisto has said that he would find what he was seeking where it all began. Seeing the damage done to the church only reminds Eddie of the terrible things he did in Lilith's name. Even though she was controlling him, he still did it, and he feels like he'll never be able to make it right. Before Spider-Man can respond, his Spider Sense goes off in a major way, and a few moments later Vampyres attack.
After defeating the Vampyres, the heroes jump down through a hole in the church floor to a series of catacombs below. Numerous Hemaliscs are scattered throughout the area. As the heroes enter a room, Dracula appears and attacks with a group of Vampyres.
As the battle rages, Hunter holds Dracula off to give Spider-Man and Venom an opportunity to break away. The two use their webs to encircle the pillars supporting the ceiling in the room with the Hemaliscs. They each pull on their webs as Hunter leaps up to land with a mighty force, causing the ceiling to collapse and destroy the Hemaliscs.
Dracula is enraged that his children have been killed, but tells the heroes that this won't stop his plans, and that all they have gained is an immortal enemy. As Dracula disappears, Mephisto suddenly materializes. Spider-Man asks him why he is working against Dracula, and Mephisto responds that Dracula broke an agreement between the two of them. Mephisto tells the heroes that he is pleased that they have made progress, and that Eddie can remain Eddie for now. He adds ominously that he will see the rest of heroes very soon.
Afterward, the three heroes emerge from the portal back at the Abbey. Hunter notes that it was hard to believe the two web-slingers were once rivals, because today they seemed like partners. Eddie feels relief at having Mephisto off his back, but seems to be troubled by something. He comments that being free from Lilith's control almost doesn't feel real.
Hunter meets with Eddie later on. He tells Hunter that he still hasn't processed what he did under Lilith's control and feels like his sins are still catching up to him. He confides that he gets flashes of memories, like corrupted video, of the terrible things he did and the people he killed. He commits to sticking around to do what needs doing, and vows that Lilith will regret ever getting into their heads.
