Mods are random perks that may appear on Cards. A Card that has a Mod will have a gold star its top left corner in order to differentiate it from unmodded Cards.
Applying Mods to Cards[]
At the Crucible in the Yard, Mods can be added to upgraded ability cards in the player's possession by paying a fee in Essence and Credits. Upgraded cards have a yellow border and names ending with a "+".
The player will be able to select one of two random Mods to apply to the card. Players can also re-roll existing Mods on any upgraded and modded card. When re-rolling there will be three options: keep the existing Mod, or use one of two new choices.
Mods on New Cards[]
When the player receives a new Card (for example, through Gamma Coil analysis or Hero Ops) there is a chance that it will have a Mod. This can only occur under the following conditions:[1]
- At least 20 in-game days must have elapsed since the start of the game.
- The player must have opened at least 4 Gamma Coils containing cards for a Hero before that Hero will receive new Modded cards.
- Mods can only appear on cards that have previously been revealed, i.e., the first time a card is seen, it will never be Modded.
Mods can appear on new cards even if the card is not upgraded. In order to re-roll the Mod on such a card, it must be upgraded first as described below.
Upgrading Modded Cards[]
If the base version of a Card is modded, then it can be upgraded in the Yard similar to other base cards. When upgrading a modded card, a duplicate is not required, but the Essence cost is higher. For example, it costs 60 Attack Essence to upgrade a modded COMMON Attack Card, compared with 30 for a non-modded card of the same type.
