The Marvel's Midnight Suns Wiki is a collaborative site that can be edited by anyone. Here are some guidelines and tips to help make your updates more successful.
Notice[]
The Wiki uses many templates to help make pages more consistent. These templates also let the same information be shared across multiple pages. This means most information (such as a card's stats) only needs to edited in a single place, and the rest of the pages that refer to that information will be automatically updated.
We realize that some people may not be familiar with editing values in templates, but still want to contribute to the Wiki. We have created a Template Editing Guide that may help. In addition, as an alternative to updating the Wiki directly, we have created a form where you can submit requests for changes to the Wiki: Information Update form.
Editing this Wiki[]
General Standards and Guidelines[]
- Don't speculate: In most cases, only confirmed, correct information should be included in this Wiki. Editors should avoid guessing at things like character motivations, and instead rely on the facts found in the game. If exceptions to this rule are necessary, then the article should be phrased in such a way that it clearly conveys that the information is not confirmed.
- Be careful with spoilers: The Wiki is a place for information about Marvel's Midnight Suns, and as such, some spoilers will be unavoidable. For example, if Stan Lee was a secret unlockable character, he would have to be named in a number of places on the site where lists of playable characters appeared. However, articles should not go out of their way to promote this fact (e.g., articles that aren't specifically related to Stan Lee should not mention him).
- Use text as it appears in-game: Where possible, the text in the Wiki should match the text in the game, including capitalization. For example, "Abbey Outfit" instead of "Abbey outfit" or "Outfit".
- Be careful with in-game jokes: Although there are exceptions to this, in general, in-game jokes are not notable enough to warrant inclusion on this wiki. Joking comments that characters make should also not be presented as in-game facts. One place where humor can be appropriate for the wiki is in the game quotes that lend color to some pages. For example, the section on Analyzing Gamma Coils has the following quote: "Welcome to Tony's Scary Demon Cave! I'm Tony, and how may I assist you today?"
- Keep things relevant to the game: From the comics to the MCU and more, Marvel superheroes have a rich history. However, this wiki is about the game Marvel's Midnight Suns, and the information presented here should be relevant to that. Key pieces of background and demographic information from other media, such as first appearances, birthdates, origins, etc., are fine, but stories and anecdotes from outside the game which have no bearing on it should be left out.
- Use existing templates: There are many templates to help make the Wiki consistent. See Templates below for more information.
- Copy what's there already: The easiest way to create something new is often to copy something that already exists. For instance, if you wanted to create a page for a new Abbey Outfit for Iron Man, it is probably fastest to find an existing Iron Man Abbey Outfit, copy all of the text over to a new page, and edit it to match the new item. This approach may work best when using the Source Editor, to ensure any internal details such as templates are properly copied.
- If you have any questions, please ask: Use any of the contact methods below if you have any questions about editing this Wiki.
Templates[]
Template Documentation[]
Most templates have some form of documentation, including instructions and examples. This information can be viewed on the template page, e.g., Template:Rarity. Some templates have their Template Data filled out, which creates a more user-friendly form when editing a template's parameters in the Visual Editor.
Commonly-used Templates[]
- Template:Rarity: Displays formatted item rarity indicators, like LEGENDARY
- Template:Symbol: Displays a symbol, like:
- Template:CosmeticInfo: Creates a fully-formatted page of information about a cosmetic item, based on just a few bits of information, like: EMO KIDS (Abbey Outfit)
- Template:Activity: Creates a fully-formatted page of information about a Hangout or Haven, based on just a few bits of information, like: Reading by the Fire
How to Edit[]
Main Guide: Template Editing Guide
There are generally two ways to edit articles on Fandom: the Visual Editor and the Source Editor. The Visual Editor is like using Microsoft Word, where you are editing a fully formatted version of the article that looks similar to how it appears when browsing the site. This is a user-friendly experience geared toward editing basic articles, but can make editing articles using more advanced functions such as templates more challenging. On the other hand, the Source Editor is more like editing markdown text or program code, where the text is largely unformatted but contains various symbols that represent formatting (such as a * character to represent a bullet point in a list).
The template documentation and its examples are geared toward the Source Editor. In general, the Visual Editor can still be used. However, this requires that the Template Data be filled out for any templates that you wish to edit using the Visual Editor. As of the time of this writing, only a few templates have this data completed. This may change over time depending on demand.
Refreshing Information From Templates[]
When you edit a page that uses a template, those changes should immediately appear on related pages. For example, if you add a new Abbey Outfit that Blade can wear, it should appear in the Abbey Outfit list the next time you visit Blade's page. However, in some cases these other pages may not immediately update. If this happens there are several things you can do.
- Re-save the page: You can try simply going into edit mode on the pages that are not updating, and hitting Save.
- Purge the cache: You can try purging the cache of pages that are not updating. Purge can be found in the "three dots" menu in the upper right of each page, next to the Edit button (not the "three dots" menu in the top navigation bar). The location of the Purge function is highlighted in the screenshot in this section.
- Just wait: Eventually the internal Wiki processes should catch up and update all related pages.

Feedback[]
These guidelines are a work in progress. At the time of this writing, it's not clear how many contributors will join the Wiki, what their questions might be, or how much demand there will even be for this documentation.
