Alarmed by this dire threat, members of the Avengers, Runaways, X-Men and Midnight Sons rally around a legendary superhero...Lilith's own child, Hunter!

The player takes on the role of Hunter, crafting Cards, making Moves and even orchestrating Objects in the fight against Lilith and her henchmen. Trivia[]

  • Marvel's Midnight Suns was the cover game for issue #339 of Game Informer. The cover featured art drawn by Ryan Stegman with inks by JP Mayer and colors by Lee Duhig, which can be seen in the Gallery below.[8]
  • Players subscribing to the newsletter can receive the Blade Nightstalker skin.
  • There was a discussion about microtransactions for the Cards, but Marvel's Midnight Suns on Twitter confirmed microtransactions will only concern cosmetic items in the game.[9]
  • Players who pre-ordered the game received the Doctor Strange Defenders Suit.[10].
  • The "Darkness Falls" Trailer from June 9, 2022 also revealed the characters Spider-Man and Venom.[11]
  • The Midnight Suns are also featured in other media, including comic books, novels, and an art book.
  • Deadpool "took over" the official Midnight Suns Twitter account between October 19 and October 26, 2022, to campaign for his inclusion in the game. During this time he "leaked" the other contents of the Season Pass and interacted with Twitter users in-character. Other official sites and social media presences were modified during this time; for example, pictures on the Heroes page of the official website were changed to look as if Deadpool drew himself into the images.
  • Marvel's Midnight Suns sponsored the October 26, 2022 episode of Forged In Fire, where contestants were challenged to create Blade's glaive and Hunter's dual swords.
  • There is a bug in the game that occasionally causes characters to be wearing their swimwear during cutscenes, instead of their Suit or Abbey Outfit. Will Miller, a former Firaxis team member, explains why the bug occurs:[12]
I can provide a little background here. When the game plays a cinematic, it pulls the necessary characters from whatever activities they happen to be doing at the time. The setup logic is complex, because the state a character is in during an activity and the state they need to be in for a cinematic can be quite different. Here, Wanda was running one of the swimming activities when the cinematic started, and because of a subtle timing bug with how costumes load, her cinematic costume is never applied before the cinematic starts, so she shows up in her swimsuit. It's a bummer we weren't able to fix this (it was very hard to reproduce consistently), but the screenshots are really funny. Will Miller

Easter eggs[]

In the game appear various references:

Gremlins[]

  • The Hunter has to find Carol Danvers in the War Room, who tries to contact Bruce Banner, but the connection doesn't work properly. Tony Stark meanwhile is trying to fix the machine and mentions, that he's "working out a few gremlins in the system". The Hunter then quickly adds: "Try sunlight. And whatever you do avoid water". These are the general tips to kill a Gremlin and to keep it from multiplying.

Ghostbusters[]

  • When Lilith enters the scene in Sanctum Sanctorum, Tony Stark only mutters "Gozer", who is the main antagonist in the Ghostbusters movie from 1984.[13]
  • In the quest Faustian Bargain, the three heroes find a mysterious chest with symbols in the Hydra warehouse. The Hunter inspects the object more closely and will warn the others to be careful. Blade then will add a Egon Spengler quote from the first Ghostbuster's movie: "Don't cross the streams".
  • Probably only a little nod to the franchise, but one of the achievements is called "The Keymaster". See more Ghostbusters Wiki article "The Keymaster".

Sherlock Holmes[]

The achievement title "Elemental, My Dear Agatha" is a nod to a quote of world's most famous detective. However, these words were not written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself. According to the article in "Today I Found Out", this quote was used the first time in a book written by P.G. Wodehouse with the name "Psmith, Journalist" (1915), and a screenwriter used it for one of the movies (either accidentally or from reading Wodehouse).[14]

Toy Story[]

One of the Hero Requests is called "You've Got a Friend in Me", which is also the title of the famous theme song for the movie Toy Story written by Randy Newman .

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade[]

When recovering an artifact, Doctor Strange mutters: "This belongs in a museum." In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Indi is confronted by a man with a panama hat in the film's introduction and has a similar dialogue, when Panama Hat takes the stolen relic from him.

Macbeth[]

There is an achievement with the title "Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble", which is a quote from Shakespeare's play Macbeth in Act IV in Scene 1, spoken by the three witches.

The WHO[]

Another achievement has the title "Pinball Wizard" - which is the title of a song written by Pete Townshend, that was used in the rock opera Tommy, that premiered in 1969. In the film Tommy, from 1975, the Pinball Wizard was portrayed by none other but Elton John.

Stargate[]

When the player is in the Forge, one of Tony Stark's lines mentions him being concerned about the circular mouth of the Forge turning into a gateway to ancient Egypt. This is a reference to the Stargate franchise, which featured a circular portal that originally transported people to a location that resembled ancient Egypt.

Various[]

  • One of the achievements has the title Needful Things, which is the title a horror novel written by Stephen King. Read more: Wikipedia:Needful Things.
  • Friendship is Magic is used as one of the achievement titles. It's also used in the title of the animated HASBRO show "My Little Pony", that premiered in 2010.
  • The Wilhelm Scream is a famous sound effect used in a variety of films. In the game, an achievement also has this name. See more on Wikipedia: Wilhelm scream.
  • After freeing Wanda, the reunited Midnight Sun crew will join her for movie night. The movie title will not be mentioned, but from the character dialogue one can recognise crucial story parts of The Witches of Eastwick.
  • A tiny nod to the Star Wars franchise: during the introduction cutscene to Story Mission "All the Devils Are Here", Caretaker and Hunter view the actions of the Lilin on the Mirror Table, the shown globe suddenly vanishes and makes Robbie jump from the sofa, yelling: "A disturbance of the force!"
  • The Hoodie - Fearsome Four is a nod to the Gorillaz album "Demon Days" (cover is shown in the Wikipedia article).[15]

Soundtrack[]

  • A cover of Enter Sandman by Alessia Cara and the Mexican Band "The Warning" was featured in the Gamescom 2021 Trailer.[16]
  • The game's original soundtrack was released on vinyl by Mondo Music, in collaboration with Hollywood Records.
