After Hunter was touched by Cthon as an infant, Sara used the last of her ancestral powers to create a collar to protect Hunter from Chthon's corruption. Lilith believed the collar was allowing Sara to control Hunter, and Chthon attempted to use her to remove the collar in the events leading to Hunter's and Lilith's deaths.
Modern Day (Marvel's Midnight Suns)[]

During the events of The Midnight Sun, Lilith succeeded in removing Hunter's collar. At this point, Chthon was able to take Hunter's body as a vessel. The Midnight Suns helped Hunter to expel Chthon and ultimately defeat the Elder God.
